You bet, I'm proud.
Back then, my ole Soldiers in the Nam- called me everything in the book, and some words- I had never heard. I would tell them, that's okay, You can call me anything you want- after you do what I said ...
You should hear them now !- I say Yep, I intended to come back to The World, and see my family again- And I was going to do my very best to get all of them back. I knew they all had Fathers, Mother Wife/ children, or girl friend- and I use to tell them, when you get back- I want you to be sane, so you can enjoy the family.
I will enjoy meeting them again in June- Two of them said they are bringing their mothers, and there will one lady,-her husband was an E-6 then- I took over PSG. And he became our supply Sgt. He past away last Oct. She will be there to meet some of us. I'm really looking forward to the reunion.
Yes, I'm a very proud Soldier- I always wear my cap (173d- Big Wings with the patch in the Center. CIB on top- and a miniature patch of each unit I served with. Though, most of the Soldiers, and units did not get the big welcome, and grand Hurah, on our return. Many people have tried to make up for it. I get many hand shakes as I travel across country. Young, old folks, and many ladies. Sure makes me feel good. When we went to see our daughter off, on their deployment from Ft. Hood- a few weeks ago. I had the opportunity to meet her 1st Sgt. and Company Commander- He said to me don't worry Sarge, We will do our very best to take care of your daughter,- He said , and I want you to know that my Dad was a Viet Nam Vet. He said and I told him the same thing !
He said- I want you to know, that The only reason we're doing so good in the wars of today, is because of you! The Viet Nam Veterans. He said you all paid dearly, and we have learn a lot from those lessons. I had heard that before, and it makes me feel great hear great people say that. You bet, I'm proud.
