This is Kenny Buys, who died on 3 March 1968 in the Republic of Vietnam. On this day, Sergeant Buy's 1st platoon was the lead platoon for Company D of the 1/503, 173d. Kenny was the point man when he discovered three enemy bunkers well concealed a few meters to his front and flanks. He knew the only action to take was to surprise the enemy and give his men the few precious seconds needed to seek cover. With this in mind, he initiated contact with a savage one man attack, catching the enemy totally off guard and allowing his men to get out of the line of fire. With no cover for him to get behind, he held his ground until enemy machine gun fire mortally wounded him.
